Greensboro


Greensboro North Carolina is the third-largest city by population in North Carolina and the largest city in Guilford County with approximate population of 275,000 residents. It is part of what is commonly called the Piedmont Triad which combines Greensboro, High Point and Winston Salem which includes a population of more than 1.6 million residents.

The city was named for Major General Nathanael Greene, commander of the American forces at the Battle of Guilford Court House from the American Revolutionary War.

Guilford County is proud to offer its residents a stellar, award-winning education in a thriving, multi-cultural community. Our county has a strong commitment to education, with six four-year universities, a two-year community college and a law school within its borders. Our award-winning early/middle colleges give high school students a chance to experience the collegiate world in a safe, transitional environment.

Four year universities include Greensboro College, Guilford College, University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG), High Point University, North Carolina A&T and Bennett College. Guilford Technical Community College offers several campus locations with classes ranging from aviation, dental hygience, automotive and applied sciences to name just a few.

Greensboro Attractions

There is plenty to do and see in the Greensboro area from annual festivals to sporting events to our fabulous network of hiking paths and lakes.

If you love to spend time outdoors, you will want to find your way to the Bicentennial Greenway, a network of hiking and biking trails that interconnect throughout the county. Grab your mountain bike and hit the Nat Green trail at Bur Mil Park in northwest Greensboro where you can also enjoy fishing, picnicing and par 3 golf.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the fact that there are a half dozen lakes bordering the county including Belews, Brandt, Higgins, Townsend to name a few. Jog one of the many paths throughout the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, stroll the Tanger Bicentennial Gardens or take in the sights at the newly renovated Greensboro Natural Science Center which now sports a zoo!

One of our favorite pastimes is to take in a game at New Bridge Bank Ballpark to watch our minor league team the Greensboro Grasshoppers play. It is certainly a sweet slice of Americana!

You will find plenty to enjoy in our great city including a play at the Carolina Theatre or the Broach Theatre, shopping at The Friendly Center, or golf at one of our fine courses like Bryan Park.

Greensboro Neighborhoods

Greensboro’s earliest neighborhood is College Hill, located between West Market Street and Spring Garden Street, in and around Greensboro College. As the city began to expand away from the downtown area, the Aycock and Fisher Park neighborhoods were established around 1900. Both neighborhoods are on the National Register of Historic Places and feature large Queen Anne residences from the turn-of-the-twentieth century, as well as Foursquare, Craftsman, and Colonial Revival style homes.

Irving Park is a prestigious neighborhood with large homes on ample lots and was developed around 1911. Its centerpiece is the Greensboro Country Club.

Glenwood is a neighborhood that occupies the southwestern part of the city bordered by the Greensboro Coliseum, Lee St., and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Glenwood is a diverse neighborhood inexpensive ranch style homes which is undergoing a revitalization as UNC-Greensboro students and faculty move to the area adjacent to Lee St.

The city has continued to expand and now includes neighborhoods in quaint historical districts, sprawling golf course communities and tract built neighborhoods in every price point. Examples include Hamilton Lakes, Lake Daniel, Latham Park, Lindley Park, Starmount, Sunset Hills and Westerwood. Many of these neighborhoods include some of the city’s finest public parks. Recent neighborhood additions include sprawling large-scale planned unit developments such as Adams Farm, Lake Jeanette, The Cardinal and Reedy Fork Ranch.
