5 Ways to Save on Home Repairs

  1. Coupons. You don’t have to be an “Extreme Couponer” to save on larger purchases and coupons can potentially save you hundreds of dollars. Spending an extra 10 minutes finding a coupon and printing it out (or pull it up on your smart phone) is totally worth it!  Ask home repair companies if they are offering any discounted services as many often do  *Also consider signing up for the store’s email list, many places will mail or email you a 15%-20% off coupon just for joining.
  2. Shop around. Don’t settle for the first place you find that has what you need and buy it. At the very least, check out a couple of websites to compare prices. No extra gas burnt, and you will buy knowing you are getting a deal!
  3. Do your Research. Just because it’s inexpensive and saving you money now doesn’t mean it’s going to last. Read the reviews people have written about a product or material. Spend $10 more now to avoid replacing it or being unsatisfied with it later.
  4. Ask a Professional. Believe it or not, DIY isn’t always the best way to go. It might save you on labor costs now but you could find yourself in a mess later costing you more to fix mistakes. Ask someone who can help you get the job done right.  Use your social network like Facebook to ask for a recommended service provider.
  5. Do a little at a time. It’s tempting to feel like you need to re-do your entire house at once, but this can seem insurmountable unless your money tree is ripe. Breaking it down into little projects month-to-month can be a great way to get things done and not have you eating Ramen Noodles and tuna for months afterwards.
