High Point and Jamestown

Home to approximately 105,000 residents and extending into four different counties in North Carolina, including Guilford, Randolph, Davidson and Forsyth, High Point is the eighth-largest city in North Carolina. It was incorporated in 1859 and named after its location, the ‘highest point’ on the North Carolina Railroad between Charlotte and Goldsboro.

Known as the ‘Home Furnishings Capital of the World’ High Point is home to over 50 discounted furniture stores and you’ll also find the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers.

High Point is home to a variety of private and public education institutions. Starting with elementary and middle school education, there are several private and independent schools such as High Point Christian Academy, Westchester Country Day School, and Phoenix Academy.

The city branches into four different counties, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford and Randolph, offering a wide range of options for public or private education. There are 109 schools to choose from in the Guilford County School system alone, as well as 6 Charter schools.

High Point is home to two universities, High Point University, a private Methodist-affiliated and founded in 1924, and Laurel University, a private interdenominational Christian university. High Point University is a four year, liberal arts school offering 50 majors total, a combination of traditional day format and non-traditional evening programs. It is ranked 6th among comprehensive universities in the South and in the top 100 nationally by U.S. News and World Report.

The city is full of fun for the family with a handful of parks, such as High Point City Lake Park for fishing, boating, amusement rides, picnics and more. There’s also Oak Hollow Festival Park which features concerts and special events throughout the year, several Golf Courses and Greenway Trail for walking and bicycling.

Learn the history of High Point at the High Point Museum and Historical Park. Also home to the Museum of Old Domestic Life, a Quaker museum established around 1926 containing artifacts from colonial Quaker homesteads, the Mendenhall Plantation, which was active in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War and Castle Mcculloch, the 19th century Cornish castle built as a gold refinery and now a destination for weddings and special events.
