Oak Ridge

Located just northwest of Greensboro is the quaint bedroom community of Oak Ridge, home to approximately 7,000 residents.  Oak Ridge, and the neighboring community of Summerfield, are both known for their more rural, upscale neighborhoods with larger, acre-plus sized lots.

The Old Mill of Guilford NC

Oak Ridge Attractions

Oak Ridge is home to The Old Mill of Guilford which was founded in 1767 to grind grain for the early settlers of what is now Guilford County.  Today, the mill continues to produce all-natural, stone ground grains just as it has for the last 250 years.

The community is also home to the Oak Ridge Military Academy.  Founded in 1850, it has been providing young men and women with a disciplined and well-rounded college preparatory education for over 160 years.

The 80 acre park, located just across the street from the Town Hall, has become a community gathering space where residents come together to enjoy a variety of recreational activities including the unpaved walking trails, picnic shelters and lighted softball & football fields.

Oak Ridge Schools

Northwest Guilford County has long been known for its excellent schools and is the destination for families looking for a more rural lifestyle in which to raise their children but also providing a strong foundational education.  Public schools include Oak Ridge and Stokesdale Elementary, Northwest Guilford Middle and Northwest High School.  School report cards are available for parents that are interested in historical test scores and other demographic information.

Charter and private schools such as Montessori, Greensboro Day and Caldwell Academy are located within a short commute of Oak Ridge as well.

Oak Ridge Restaurants

While the town of Oak Ridge is much smaller than its Greensboro neighbor, it has several fine restaurants including Elizabeth’s which serves quality italian fare, JP Looney’s, a popular sports bar and restaurant serving cold beverages and hot sandwiches!  You may also want to visit Bistro 150 which features live music on select evenings.
